Clean the Inside of an Electric Kettle
Electric kettles are commonly used in Europe in place of the stove top variety. These small kitchen appliances offer the convenience of quickly heated water and a kettle that turns itself off when the job is complete. Similar to stove top kettles, electric kettles require regular cleaning and occasional stain removal to keep them in tip-top shape. Keeping your electric kettle clean will prevent its efficiency from being compromised.
Instructions
1. Wipe down the base of your electric kettle with a damp, stain-erasing sponge. The base cannot be submerged in water, so wiping it with the stain-erasing sponge will remove surface dirt and grime without getting the base wet.
2. Dampen a nylon mesh sponge with water. Apply a couple drops of dishwashing detergent to the wet sponge and scrub out the inside and outside of your electric kettle. Wipe off the outside with a damp cloth to rinse it off and rinse the inside out with water.
3. Pour 3 cups white vinegar into your electric kettle and add water, if needed, to fill the kettle to the highest water point.
4. Turn your electric kettle on so it brings the vinegar solution to a boil. Once the kettle turns itself off, allow the vinegar solution to sit in your kettle overnight.
5. Pour the diluted vinegar out of the kettle and rinse it out with plain water three or four times. Prop the top of the kettle open and allow it to air dry completely.
Tips Warnings
Wipe off small mineral deposits on the rim of your electric kettle by rubbing a lemon half on the stains.
If you use your electric kettle daily, run vinegar through it every two weeks to prevent mineral buildup.
Allowing hard water stains to buildup can impair your kettle's efficiency.
