Shut Off A Leaky Bathtub Faucet

A leaky bathtub faucet is not only annoying, but it can be extremely costly, literally throwing your money down the drain one drip at a time. You can turn it yourself until help arrives.

Instructions

1. Shut the water off before you attempt to fix it. Some bathtubs have their own access panel built into the wall that hooks up to that particular tub. If that is the case, simply open that up and turn the knob a right turn.

2. Locate the water shut off valve for older bathtubs. Most older homes were not built with separate access panels for each individual faucet, so you are going to have to hunt for the best place to turn off the water or look at your home's blueprint. Most of the time, water branch lines will lead to individual fixtures or groups of water appliances.

3. Look near the washer and dryer. If the shut off valve is not outside, it will most likely be in what works as the utility or laundry room of the house. In some homes, it is the garage. You can usually spot a painted wheel. It will always be right beside the home's water meter.

4. Shut off water to the entire house. You could go outside and shut down all the water to the entire house if you cannot find another water valve.

5. Turn the wheel, or valve, clockwise, or to the right to shut off the water. Use a wrench if it won't turn by hand.
