The plate on a Gerber shower handle is called the escutcheon plate or beauty ring. The plate is sometimes removed to replace with a new one or make repairs to the faucet handle. Installing a new faucet or Gerber shower handle will also require removal of the escutcheon plate. Keep an eye on the little screws involved in this project--it's easy to lose track of them.
Instructions
1. Cut the water supply to the shower faucet by locating the shower shut-off valves behind the shower. There may be an access panel on the other side of the shower wall in another room. If you cannot find individual shutoffs for the shower, close the main water shutoff for the house.
2. Use a standard screwdriver to gently pry the center cap off the handle where the escutcheon plate is being removed.
3. Twist out the screw in the center of the handle, using the Phillips screwdriver to turn counterclockwise. Remove the handle and set aside.
4. Locate the set screw at the base of the escutcheon plate and loosen it. You do not have to remove the screw completely to pull off the escutcheon plate. If the plate has been caulked to the wall, gently cut the caulk around the entire circumference with a utility knife until the plate can be removed from the wall.
