Hang Ribbon And Garlands

Garlands with ribbons hanging along a fence add a decorative touch to your yard.

Garlands decorated with ribbon can make a lovely addition to your holiday decorations. Early American settlers used garlands to decorate their homes. In the early twentieth century and with the rise of the industrial age, the abundance of natural foliage fell and people started using artificial garlands to decorate their homes. Today, people use natural and artificial garlands to add a little holiday spirit to their home. No matter what type of garlands and ribbon you decide to use, there are some basic hanging techniques that will give you a lovely visual presentation for the season.

Instructions

1. Stretch out your pieces of garland on the floor. Make sure your floor is relatively clean and free of dust. You don't want to get your garlands dirty. Decide where in your house you would like to hang your garlands. They can be hung along a banister or around windows or door frames. Once you've determined where you want to hang your garlands, you will need to measure out your hook placement.

2. With your measuring tape, measure out the placement of your three adhesive-backed hooks. Make a light pencil mark on the wall to indicate where you will place the first hook. Measure 18 inches from your first mark and make another light pencil mark to indicate where you will place the second hook. Repeat this step for the third hook. Keep in mind that when you hang your garlands they will fall about 6 inches below your hooks, so you will need to raise or lower your hook placement accordingly.

3. Remove your hooks from their packaging and apply them over your pencil marks. Follow the application instructions provided by the manufacturer of the hooks.

4. Drape your garlands along the hooks. Make sure they are draped at the same height between the hooks for a uniform look.

5. Take your decorative bows and attach them to your garlands at the hooks. The ribbon will help to cover the hooks and give a more festive look to your garlands. Depending on your type of decorative ribbon, you can either tie it to the garlands or fasten it to your garlands with a clip. You now have garlands and ribbon hanging in your home for the holiday season.

Tips Warnings

When you are ready to put away your garland, Command hooks can easily be removed without creating any damage to your wall.

If you are using live garland, you will want to make sure it is fresh. Dry garland can be unsightly and a fire hazard. To check if your garland is fresh, gently rub the needles between your fingers. If your garland is fresh, the needles will stay attached to the branch. If your garland is dry, the needles will come off in your hand.
