Troubleshoot A Glacier Bay Kitchen Faucet

Glacier Bay is the house brand of Home Depot, and these kitchen faucets are available in many different models and styles. If you have a Glacier Bay kitchen faucet with problems, you can troubleshoot the faucet by following a straightforward procedure. Even if you do not make the necessary repairs yourself, knowing the source of a problem is helpful when you hire a plumber. Most problems can be ascertained in just a few minutes with minimal effort.

Instructions

1. Remove the aerator at the end of the spout by turning it counterclockwise with a pair of slip-joint pliers if the water flow is restricted. The aerator is the small round piece with a screen that attaches to the end of the faucet spout. Sometimes, if the aerator is blocked, it can restrict the flow of water from the spout. Clean the aerator with an old toothbrush and spray lubricant then replace it onto the end of the spout.

2. Inspect the nut at the base of the spout if water is leaking around the faucet base. Many times a water leak can be repaired by tightening the spout nut, which can come loose over time and with use.

3. Turn off the supply of water to the faucet with the individual shutoff valves under the sink or the main shutoff for the house. If one of the handles on a two-handle faucet is squeaking or singing, it may be the result of a worn washer. Remove the button cap on the handle with a flat head screwdriver to pry it off then remove the screw in the center of the handle with a Phillips head screwdriver. Fish the washer out and inspect it for signs of wear; replace it if necessary.

4. Look at the shutoff valves under the sink and feel them for wetness if there is water underneath the sink. Turn the shutoff nut slightly clockwise with an adjustable wrench and see if the drip stops. Also inspect the water supply hoses and replace them if they are worn and possibly leaking.

5. Twist the handle back and forth to test whether it works freely. If it is hard to turn and you have problems with water flow, the valve stem or cartridge may be worn and need to be replaced.
