Remove The Wind Deflector On A Road King Custom

Most Harley owners are happy to tinker with their bikes in the garage and eager to take on simple tasks. Removal of the wind deflector on a Road King Custom is a straightforward job that shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes. The wind deflector, or windshield, is easily removed without any tools. Always set the wind deflector front-side up on a clean, padded surface after removal to prevent scratches and dirt from marring the exterior.

Instructions

1. Stand at the front of the motorcycle, over the fender.

2. Put your thumbs on the cross brace. Using your fingers, pull up on the wireform latch springs on both sides of the wind deflector.

3. Hold onto both sides of the wind deflector. Pull up on the top of the wind deflector away from the top grommets and rubber mounts. The upper notches on the wind deflector brackets come free of the upper grommets.

4. Raise the wind deflector until the lower notches are free of the lower grommets. Lift the deflector straight up so there is no chance of scratching any of the surrounding chrome.

5. Remove the windshield.

Tips Warnings

Watch out for the clearance between the trim screws and the passing lamps, as they could scratch the chrome if you're not careful.
