adjust-the-hot-and-cold-water-flow-in-a-bathtub

If your tub faucet has an adjustment for the hot and cold water, you can change the maximum output temperature in the tub. This is vital if you have kids and want to protect them from scalding. It is also helpful if you have a weaker water heater and need to increase water temperatures seasonally. For instance, in winter, when ground water is colder, increase your water temperature for a more pleasant showering experience.

Instructions

1. Remove the smaller knob from the front of the faucet handle and remove the base for the knob by unscrewing the small screw in front of it. This step is only for faucets that have a temperature control knob, which is what this handle is called. If your faucet does not have this knob, remove the handle on the faucet by taking the retainer screw out of the handle base with an Allen wrench.

2. Hold a container under the faucet and place a regular thermometer into it. Turn on the water by turning the handle or rotating the stem on the faucet cartridge fully open toward the hot indicator. Wait for a minute or two until the water is as hot as it gets.

3. Remove the thermometer from the container, being careful not to reach under the water, and read the temperature. Adjust the temperature output according to your thermometer reading. If the water is too hot, over 110 degrees Fahrenheit, turn the adjustment knob toward the colder setting. If the water is not warm enough, turn the knob toward the hotter setting. Hotter is typically counterclockwise and colder clockwise on most faucets. Consult the dial indicators or your documentation for the correct direction to turn your knob.

4. Measure the temperature and adjust the dial as needed until the temperature suits your liking.
