Side Effects Of Codalgin

Codalgin is a drug that's a combination of two active ingredients called paracetamol and codeine phosphate. These two ingredients working together make Codalgin an effective fast-acting analgesic (pain reliever) and an antipyretic (reduces fever). Paracetamol blocks pain and reduces fever while codeine phosphate is an ophoid analgesic that blocks pain and your emotional response to pain. Codalgin is available in tablet form.


Function


According to Mydr.com, Codalgin is used for the temporary relief of the pain and discomfort of conditions, such as a fever, earache and migraine headaches as well as rheumatic pain and painful menstrual periods. The paracetamol part of Codalgin makes it ideal for treating individuals who cannot tolerate aspirin, especially those with stomach ulcers. Bear in mind that Codalgin could be habit forming because of its codeine content.


Side Effects


Codalgin will be tolerated well by most individuals; however there are side effects to be aware of. These may include the common side effects of nausea, vomiting and constipation or dizziness. There may also be feelings of lethargy and a skin rash. Contact your doctor for advice if any of these symptoms persist.


Serious Side Effects


These may include fever with severe chills or a sore throat and mouth ulcers. In addition there may be unusual bleeding and bruising along with difficulty passing urine. Contact your doctor immediately for advice about any of these symptoms.


Allergic Reaction


An allergic reaction is a serious medical emergency. There may be signs such as a rash or hives with itching or swelling of the face, tongue as well as the throat. In addition there may be shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. Seek emergency medical treatment for any of these signs.


Precautions


Discuss your medical history with your doctor, including any allergies, medications you are taking and herbal products or over-the-counter drugs. Include any gastro-intestinal problems, liver or kidney diseases or urinary problems. As well as Addison disease, depression or an under-active thyroid as well as convultions or epilepsy or any convulsions, epilepsy or any heavy drinking or drug problems. Discuss any upcoming surgery under general anesthesia, any head injury or brain tumor

Codalgin may become habit forming and when this medication is discontinued symptoms of irritability and sleeplessness may occur. Contact your doctor immediately if these symptoms occur. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding before taking Codalgin. Excessive alcohol intake while taking Codalgin may lead to kidney or liver damages. Bear in mind that Codalgin and Codalgin Forte have similar ingredients and that Codalgin Forte is a stronger version prescription drug.
